Dante Lamont Jernagin, born October 19, 1977, in Pontiac, Michigan, left this world on October 25, 2024, in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Dante was the cherished son of Malvina McCathern and Willie Moore. Growing up in Pontiac, he was surrounded by family and friends until 1995, when his mother moved the family to Columbia, Tennessee. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1996 and later attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas.
Dante’s faith was central to his life. He obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ at Eastside Church of Christ in Pontiac, Michigan. After moving to Columbia, he joined Carmack Blvd Church of Christ, where he was an active member, especially with the youth group and as part of the Harmonizers singing group. Dante loved singing and sharing his faith with those around him, bringing joy and comfort to many.
Family was Dante’s heart and soul. His children, Dante Jr., Destiny, and Alexus, were his pride and joy—his "heartbeat." When he faced the challenges of kidney failure, his mother Malvina stepped in with unwavering support and care, showing everyone what a mother’s love truly looks like. Dante was eternally grateful to her for that.
In 2022, Dante found his way back to an old college friend, Victoria Ward, who became the love of his life. Victoria brought joy and purpose back into his life. She stood by him through every step of his health journey, from dialysis to transplant, and was with him until his final moments. In her, Dante found love, companionship, and a reason to dream again. On February 20, 2024, Dante promised Victoria a future together as his wife. With her, he gained not only a life partner but also a granddaughter, affectionately calling him “Pinky,” a daughter, Olivia, and three wonderful sons, Martin, Isaiah, and Sharod.
Dante was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Othel and Ella Jernagin; paternal grandparents, Ezell and Earnestine Moore; and his stepfather, Michael McCathern.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Victoria Ward (Jernagin); his children, Dante Jr., Destiny, Alexus, Olivia, Martin, Sharod, and Isaiah; grandchildren, Charlie and Jordan; parents, Malvina McCathern of Spring Hill, TN and Willie Moore of Pontiac, MI; siblings, Anthony (Octavia) Jernagin of Athens, AL, Meshawn McCathern of Clarksville, TN; Renetrice Rhymes, Shaun Moore, William Earl Moore, and Marilynn Moore, all of Pontiac, MI; a special cousin (sister), Jasmine Jernagin of Columbia, TN; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dante will be remembered for his big heart, his devotion to family, and his deep faith. His love, humor, and strength left a mark on everyone who knew him. He’ll be deeply missed, but his memory and spirit will live on in all of us.
