Mr. Joe Henry Akins was born June 29, 1960 to Christine Osborne and the late Nelson Akins, Sr. He departed this life January 29, 2013.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by aunts, Francis Akins, Margaret Osborne, Fannie Sue Osborne and Gertrude Mintlow; uncles, John Willie Akins, James Osborne, Willie Osborne, Alfred Akins and Henry Thomas Akins.

Mr. Akins leaves to cherish his memories wife Shirley J. Akins; two daughters, Kennetha and Shanetina; three sons, Vance Shuler, Jackie Wilkins, Jr. and Cody Wilkins; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Mai K. Gooch, Deloris Akins, Donna Akins, Linda Akins and Mary Mintlow; five brothers, Nelson Akins, Jr., Tom William Akins, Billy L. Akins, William Akins and Robert Mintlow; aunts, Fannie Mae, Mary (Steve) Claybrooks and Hazel Osborne; uncles, Earnest Akins and John D. Osborne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
