Mother Mary Elizabeth King was born in Rutherford County on July 8, 1949, to James Price, Sr. and Margie Sanders who preceded her in death. Mother King accepted Christ at an early age and was a long-time member of Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon and Mother King’s love story began as childhood sweethearts. They went on to marry August 10, 1966, and from this union they welcomed two daughters, Veronica and Sharon. Mother had a long-time career as an Assembler for Hennessey Industries, (The COATS) for 27 years, where she retired. The King Family were members of Stones River Primitive Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board and Youth Ministry for many years. She was a devoted member who shared her wisdom through storytelling, her care for others, and outreach. Mother was a part of the Kitchen Ministry and touched the lives of many through her cooking of soul food. In her early years, she was the cook for Glorious Wonders LLC, Childcare Center. She poured into many families and young children by feeding, nurturing, and being an open arm during those years. Family meant the most to her, and she spread her love by giving them her all. She enjoyed being surrounded by them, especially during the holidays cooking her favorite meals.
Mother King was also preceded in death by her aunts and uncles, brothers-in-law, James C. Osborne and John Goff; her loving cat Pebbles; and dogs, Buffy and Haratio.
Mother King received her call home on October 5, 2024. She leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband, Anderson E. King; children, Veronica (George) Buchanan and Sharon King; grandchildren, Johrontai (Katherine) King, Giorgiette Buchanan and Amber Brown; great grandson, Jaxon Clark; sisters and brother, Evelyn (Victory) Cantrell, Emma Jean Osborne, Margie Goff and James Sanders Jr.; brother-in-law, Carrell Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
