Charles received his education in his early years in the Public School System in Petersburg and Fayetteville, Tennessee, later graduating from Bedford County Training School in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Charles obeyed the Gospel, accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior under the leadership of Brother Vick Hensley at the Mulberry Street Church of Christ in Fayetteville, Tennessee, later placing his membership at Bird Street Church of Christ.  HE TRULY LOVED THE LORD, and always worked diligently in the Church.  He was a farmer by trade and always worked hard at any task given to him.
