Wilson Darnell, Jr., BKA, George Wilson Chaney, was a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, born June 26, 1929, to the late Wilson Darnell, Sr. and Savannah Ransom, then later adopted by Will Chaney. He was educated in the Rutherford County School System. After graduating from Holloway High in 1948, he attended MTSU and then on to TSU until being drafted by the United States Army in 1951 where he earned the title of SGT, received his nursing degree and was Honorably Discharged in 1959.
He then began his lifelong career at the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Psychiatric department for 35 years. He was then employed by the Rutherford County School Board for 12 years. After his second retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, tennis, attending various football games and smoking his pipe to pass the time.
George was preceded in date by his loving, late wife and friend of many years, Frances O. Chaney; parents, Wilson Darnell, Sr., Will Chaney and Savannah Chaney; sisters, Emma Brown, Carrie Cannon, Gladys Smith and Dorothy Smith; brothers, Jimmy Chaney, Willie Chaney, Sr. and Frank Chaney.
Precious memories will always remain in the hearts of his children, daughter, Shantiva’ D. (Richard) Nelson of Murfreesboro, TN.; son, Darrell Chaney of Murfreesboro, TN.; grandchildren, Solei’ Nelson, Angel Batey, Zy’aire Jackson, Darrisha Chaney, Za’Riyah Chaney, Za’Ryain Cantrell and A’mora Shorter; sisters-in-law, Mary Pat Chaney, Janice (Jerry) Chaney, Sandra McHenry, Olivia Wooten, Barbara Knox, Doris Knox and Mildred Riley; brothers -in-law, Fred (Valita) McHenry, Jr., Will Larry Osborne, Sr. and James Smith; special friends, Charles and Cynthia Moore and Larry Stillwell; and a host of family, Friends and loved ones.
