Leon Bell, Sr. was born January 30, 1946, to Mr. Cleveland and Mrs. Florine Bell who have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Gillary Gates, Edward Gates, Rev. Charlie Bell and Cleveland Bell; his sisters, Patricia Williams, Idella Davis, and Sandra Rice have preceded him as well.
Leon was educated in Chattanooga City School system. He also received certification in Elementary Education, Business Administration and Computer Science. Leon served in Vietnam from 1968-1970, then he was in the Army Reserve from 1970-1976. Leon is a Purple Heart recipient for his protection of fellow servicemen.
Leon has served in multiple positions. He served as plant supervisor, substitute teacher, teacher’s aide, lead custodial supervisor and food service for Rutherford County Schools.
Leon was a passionate musician who wanted to make sure notes and words were in order. He served many many many churches all over Chattanooga and Murfreesboro.
Leon is survived by his wife of 51 years Barbara Bell; all six children, Michelle (Eric) Ellison, Leon Bell Jr., Sidney (Shontel) Bell, Bernard (Eliza) Bell, Mary Bell and Melissa Smith; siblings, Vashti McDonald, Mae (Calvin) Woods, Leroy (Sharon) Bell and John Bell; he also he leaves to mourn 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Leon was loved by a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
