Robert Allen “Honeybun” Akins was born on December 18, 1933 in Milton, TN, to Pleas Akins and Annie Eubanks. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Pleas Jr., Evins and Howard; one sister, Emma Darnell; He was married to Aliene Ross Akins which also preceded him in death. Through this union eight sons were born, sons that preceded him in death are Michael, Clifton and Anthony Akins. He is survived by his children, Daniel (Bernice), Nathaniel (Danielle), Alvin, Carl, William “Tell” Thomas; a host of grandchildren, Janice, Daniel Jr., Darrell, Carlos James, Darian, Leron, Kelly, Tea and he was preceded also in death by Jeremiah “Jeremy” McMahon.

Robert “Honeybun” Akins was a spiritual man. He could be heard singing his favorite spiritual songs around the house. Towards the last few years of his life, he became an example of imperfection, repentance and the grace and mercy of God’s love. He was a calming force, as one listened to him singing out his love for the Lord. He was taken peacefully into God’s presence as a reminder of God’s goodness and mercy. His melody of spirituals will be missed but he will be celebrated by finally joining the love of his life and his eternal home that he loved to sing about.
