On December 29, 2021, Roger Lee Porter Sr. departed his earthly life at the Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Murfreesboro, TN. Roger was born November 4, 1947, to the late Will A and Audie Lee Greer Porter. He was the fourth of twelve children. He attended and graduated May 31, 1968, from Shelbyville Central High School. He served in the Army National Guard and the United States Army. He then went on to the Tennessee State Board for vocational education to be a welder in conjunction with auto mechanics. Roger was a deputy sheriff with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department.
Roger went to East Cedar Street Church of Christ later becoming Bird Street Church of Christ. He was a faithful brother who served the congregation however he could. Roger had 6 children; Deania Webb, Debbie (Mike) Morton, Roger (Theresa) Porter Jr., Ryan (Chandra) Porter, Desma (Ross) Whitaker and Jarred Porter. Grandchildren; Demarco Marsh, Lanetra Leslie, Billy Jr. Leslie (BJ), Christin (Michael) Johnson, Christopher Morton, Jessica (Javvon) Jones, Justin Pinkerton, Jordan Porter, Andrew Porter, Maddox Porter, Kameron Porter, and Jason Porter. He leaves great-grandchildren; Makaleigh Monce, Noah Rashad Marsh, Amenia Leslie, Kartier Leslie, Emma Rhea Johnson, Eevie Rian Johnson, Harrison Rashad Johnson, Skylar Jones, Jorriah Porter, and Ryder Porter.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother and father; Will A and Audie Lee Greer Porter, brothers Billy, James, Maurice, and Ronnie; and sisters, Carolyn and Martha Rose; and grandson Michael Rashad Morton. Roger was loved by his family and will never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by his siblings; brother Larry Porter, sisters; Marsha Porter, Joann Pitts, Shelia (Thomas) Bolejack, Robbie (Allen) Nelson, and favorite uncle Joseph Greer, other aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
