On Tuesday, August 9, 1966, a bouncing baby girl by the name of Lorna Janine Adams was born to James and Gladys Adams, becoming the youngest of the existing siblings that also included Warren and Clarence Adams, Eloise Adams Cornish and Janet Adams Davis. Lorna’s father, James Adams, preceded her in death, as did her sister, Deborah Walden Mebane, and a nephew, Kortez Mebane.

Lorna was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and at the tender age of one, the family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Lorna matriculated in the SDA School System from elementary school at F. H. Jenkins, to Greater Nashville Jr. Academy and then to Madison Academy for a little over a year. She graduated high school from Georgia Cumberland Academy in 1984.

Lorna had a beautiful voice, she loved to sing. She was a member of the Nashville Community Choir, where she was a Second Alto Section Leader, as well as the Special Assistant for Music Library Services. She was also an avid reader. In 2016, she authored a book called “Necessary Evil.” She was employed by Schneider Electric (formerly Square D) in Smyrna, TN for over 25 years. She worked in various departments throughout her career. She loved her family, enjoyed playing games and was an avid ROOK player, being taught by her step-father, Charles Terrell (deceased), who started her and her sisters playing the game at an early age. She continued it through the years where she became a major player at the game, playing in tournaments, and hosting weekend games at her home.

Lorna leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, Jeffrey Gethers; three children, Christal (Andre’) Malone of Antioch, TN, Tiffany (Ben) Dean of Lebanon, TN and Raymond B. Johnson, II; four step-children, Alexa (Michael) Toon of Nashville, TN, Ashlyn Gethers of Nashville, TN, Jordan Gethers of Antioch, TN and Jeffern Gethers of Nashville, TN; her mother, Gladys Lovette Terrell of Linden, TN; sisters and brothers, Noella Walden of Wadesboro, NC, Kara (Torran) King of Apollo, PA, Dianne Terrell-Malone of Fairview Heights, IL, Denise (Fred) Batten of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Sheila Rhodes of Murfreesboro, TN, Lynette Adams of Linden, TN, Ellis Terrell of Columbus, OH and Duane (Yvette) Terrell of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren, Brooklyn Johnson, Annissa Malone, Sarai Toon, Evalyn Dean, Anthony Brown and Grayson Gethers; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and loved ones dear and near to her heart. Lorna had a few close friends with whom she formed a bond like sister, Lenora A. Norman, Jenifer Skywark, Sherene Woolcock and Lajuan Clark.

Lorna loved the Lord and was baptized at Riverside Chapel at a young age. She was a long-time member of Oaklands Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Murfreesboro, TN, where she served in the Treasury Department. She was once a member of the Music Department (Oaklands Park Singers and OPC Praise Team), and she served in other capacities throughout the years. Her Christian walk with the Lord continued to her passing, and we look forward to seeing her at the 2nd Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
