God called our precious mom and said to her, “It’s time for my good and faithful servant to come home”. Nora Sue Duke departed this life peacefully on August 25, 2023, at 11:24p.m., at Stonecrest Tristar in Smyrna, Tennessee.
She was born May 3, 1935, to the late John Henry and Rena Himes in Waco, Tennessee. She was the third of four children.
Her father, mother, brother, Ira Lee Himes, John Henry Himes Jr., Dwayne Himes, and a grandson, DeJuan Duke preceded her in death.
She attended school in Giles County and graduated in 1954 at Bridgeforth High School.
She married the late Claude Will Duke on July 17, 1954. To this union, three children were born. She was the backbone of the family. Sue cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was baptized into Christ at a tent meeting under the leadership of Bro. Marshall Kebble in 1952, at Round Hill Church of Christ. Later she served at Second Ave West End and Bradyville Road, where she served faithfully until the end of her journey.
Sue worked at Rutherford County Nursing Home for 10 years. She worked at NHC Nursing Home for 20 years. After retiring, she took care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and also others.
Sue was a sharp dresser and will be remembered for matching from head to toe.
Some of Sue’s hobbies included taking care of her flowers quilting, sewing, and cooking. Some of her special desserts were egg pie, chocolate pie, old fashion banana pudding, which she shared with many, and don’t forget her homemade ice cream! She loved to host and entertain in her home with a smile.
Sue loved the Lord and worked in the Church trying to bring souls to Christ.
Cherishing her memories are a devoted daughter, Freda (William) Porter; two devoted sons, Kenneth Ray Duke, and Roger Wade Duke; a devoted daughter-in-law, Beverly Duke; grandchildren, Alvin (Tracy) Duke, Tyron (Katie) Duke and Travis Duke; five great-grandchildren; three sisters in law, Ruth Braden Alice Faye Braden and Sadie Mae Duke; a special cousin, Frank Braden; adopted children, Michael (Kim) Triplett; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
