Nora Mai (Dillard) Peebles was the oldest living resident of Smyrna, Tennessee.  Mrs. Peebles was born on December 21, 1917 and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Christian Care Center of Rutherford County.  She was born to the late Lem & Hattie Dillard.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William H. “Alex” Peebles, Sr., two siblings, Albert (Emma) Dillard, and Lucile (Jimmie) Miles, and two sons, Lem G. (Bernice) Peebles and Larry C. Peebles and stepson, Sammie L. Wilson.  She was educated in the Rutherford County school system.  She professed her faith in Christ at a young age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Smyrna, TN.  She was an active member of the church (choir, Building Fund Treasurer, Church Secretary, Dorcas Circle, & Mother Board).  She was also an active community leader (Rosenwald PTA, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Committee, etc.).   She was a domestic and care giver to several Smyrna families- the Ridleys, Culbertsons, Brandons, Colemans, and a number of other families.  Her passion was cooking and sewing.  She was famous for her homemade rolls and cakes.

She united in holy matrimony with Alex Peebles and from this union was born five children, nurtured and loved.  She leaves to cherish her loving memories three loving children, William H. Peebles, Jr., Patricia A. Peebles both of Smyrna, TN and Angela L. “Neice” Peebles of Nashville, TN; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Peebles of Smyrna,TN;  14 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; devoted granddaughters Leatrice Peebles and Racquel Peebles; devoted adopted children Billy Ridley, Pamela Whitmore, and Bill (Lisa) Culbertson, Jr.; devoted friend and traveling buddy Thea Appleton, devoted friends, Eddie Appleton, Dorothy Smith, Kitty King, Lois Long, Den Capehart, and Andrew Taylor; devoted neighbors, the Gregorys, McCroskeys and Neals; devoted roommate Millie Davis; and a host of relatives and friends.
