Odesser Batts was born February 4, 1930 to the late John Henry and Ethel Elmo Seay Batts. She entered a peaceful rest during the sunset of June 8, 2021.
Odesser was born in Rutherford County Tennessee. She attended the Rutherford County Public School System. On December 18, 1946 she married Richard Murray, the love of her life. To this union seven children were born of which Melissa Dawn and Martha Jean precede her in death. She was a homemaker, a cook, a seamstress, an inspector, a plant laborer, a wife, and a mother who loved the Lord.
She accepted Christ at Rockvale Original Church of God at an early age and united with the Haley Church of God, Sanctified, now known as the New Haley Church of God, Sanctified Inc. after moving to Shelbyville. Mother Murray served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent, usher, missionary, loved people and loved good church services. You would see her sitting on the right-hand side on the second pew every Sunday.
In addition to her parents & daughters, she is is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Murray, her paternal grandparents, Henry and Rebecca Batts; sisters, Lillian, Alice Marie, & Cleo; brothers, Robert Lee, John Willie, Floyd, Thomas Aaron, Bobby, and Theo; and granddaughter, Tori Phillips.
She leaves to cherish her memory, 5 loving and devoted children, Sarah (Harold) Bean, Elaine (Robert Cecil) Johnson, Richard “Bubba” Murray, Jerry (Carolyn) Murray, and Rev. Sharon (Leon) Ogilvie; 16 loving and devoted grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Agaither ‘Dutchess’, Ella Mae, and Gladys; brothers, Bernice and Melvin, a devoted best friend-bopsy Mother Lillie F.
