Thursday, February 26, 2015 Friday, February 27, 2015 St. Henry Catholic Church Interment Teresa Jane Wise-Johnson was born on April 23, 1954 in Washington, D.C. to the late Leroy Wise and June Teresa Freeman Wise. Teresa graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and Secondary Education from Howard University on May 10, 1976. After graduating, she then owned her own day care business in Washington D.C. from 1976-1981. Teresa then started working as a Case Manager Foster Care for the Department of Human Services in Boston, MA an in Nashville, TN from 1982-1989. She also worked as a parent Educator in Metro Schools for Crittenton Services in Nashville, TN from 1991-2005. During her working career, she met and was married on August 17, 1987 to Glenn Kevin Johnson. Teresa served diligently for 30 years as a social worker, mentoring pregnant teen girls from our local high schools, such as Hillwood High, McGavock, Stratford, and many more. Not only did she educate and advocate for these girls so they could have the best financial, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual support, she also taught abstinence and sex education workshops. Many will remember Teresa for her passion for public health and her unconditional love for all those who crossed her path. Teresa was also very involved in community activities, was on the Juvenile Court Review Board and a part of DHS, Child Abuse Review Board. She is preceded in death by stepfather, John McFarland Tucker Teresa leaves her loving memory, husband, Glenn Kevin Johnson; daughters, Jessica Teresa (Constance Poarch) Johnson and Jordan Tiera Johnson; stepsons, Terrence Kevin (Karen) Churchwell and Darius Montuez Johnson; eight grandchildren, Terryana, Keyara, Tylah, T.K., and Kaniya Churchwell, Sheena Mearse, Christian Mearse and Brihanna Franklin; and a host of cousins, friends and care-givers |
