Ms. Claudia Batts, age 64, born in Shelbyville, Tennessee to the late Joann Smith and Jasper Batts.  She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Viviant Health Care of Shelbyville.

Ms. Claudia was a native of Shelbyville, Tennessee where she attended school.  She worked at the former Glenn Oaks Convalescent Center, now Viviant Health Care of Shelbyville, in housekeeping and she knew and worked with most of the staff.

She was a beloved aunt, niece and cousin.  She was more so a sister to many of her cousins.  She was one half of the bird’s duo, referring to her by the family as “lil bird” and twin sister Claudett as “big bird”. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by sister, Claudett S. Batts; grandparents, Clyde & Mable Smith; aunts, Mary Francis, Zell Smith and Ruby Smith; uncles, Roy Clyde, Wilbert, Lloyd, Vernon and Mitchell Smith; sibling/cousin, Demetra R. Marlin; cousins, Lisa Ann Palmer, Dewayne Ingram and Bill Henry Smith; and dearest friend, Thurman Hicks.

Claudia leaves to cherish her memories, nephews, Anthony Batts and Brian McCroskey of Shelbyville, Tennessee; two great nephews, Alex and Aden McCroskey of Shelbyville, Tennessee; beloved aunt, Joyce Smith of Shelbyville, Tennessee; beloved uncles, Sam (Emma) Smith of Gary, Indiana, Wille Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Jimmie Smith of Richlands, North Carolina; cousin/sibling, Ernest Smith, Sylvia Smith and Donna Smith of Shelbyville, Tennessee; and a host of cousins, family and friends.
