Mary Ellen Daniels was born July 30, 1953 in Rutherford County to Stella Mae and the late Grant E Daniels. She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin E. Daniels, Sr. Mary made her ascent home peacefully on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at her residence.
Mary, “Mary D”, or “D Baby” as she was affectionately known as to many, was educated entirely in the Rutherford County School System, having attended Bradley School before graduating from Central High School in The Class of 1971. She was proudly a part of the “Class Of ’71-50 Forever” as she would proudly say that started in 2004. Any time Mary would see a classmate, she would say, “That’s my classmate”.
She was employed by Heatcraft Manufacturing, Vultee (AVCO) Aerostructure better known Triumph Facilities, the police department as a Crossing Guard, and served faithfully for many years at Hellum Funeral Home Inc., and Nelson & Sons Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN.
She united with Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church at a young age under the leadership of the late Reverend Hugh L. Trimble. Mary served faithfully at Mt. Zion for many years as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Van Ministry, and custodian of the church. She later united with Original Church of God under the leadership of Rev. Charles Williams, Jr, who was also her current Pastor that baptized her. She served faithfully as an usher for the National and State Level Original Church of God, Inc. until her health began to decline.
Under the leadership and coaching of her father, the late Grant E. Daniels, William Gray, & Dorothy (Mama Dot) McKnight, Mary played softball with the Soul Sisters Softball Team for many years where they won the State Tournament in 1972 in Chattanooga, TN. She was also a proud member of the Rebecca Carney Temple #798 (Elk’s Club) for over 40 years where she served in the community until her health declined.
Mary was very well known in the Murfreesboro community and she never met a stranger. Early every Sunday morning you could always hear her voice on 1450 AM on the programs “To God Be the Glory” and “Straight From the Heart”. More than anything, she was known for her sense of humor and jokes. She was one who did not bite her tongue and always said what was on her mind. She loved her family and always demanded attention at family gatherings and socials to get everyone to laugh.
Above everything else, Mary would tell you her greatest accomplishment occurred on December 30th, 1985 when her son Jarrod was born. Everyone that was affiliated with Mary knew that he was her son and the love of her life. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for Jarrod or “Bubba” as she would call him. When you saw Mary, you always saw Jarrod with her. She always wanted to make sure he was taken care of. She was devoted mother, who taught Jarrod everything he knows and how to be independent. She would often say, “Jarrod, you are a blessed son, and God has been good to us and has never left us”.
Mary is survived by her devoted and beloved son, Jarrod T. Daniels Howse of Murfreesboro, TN.; her devoted mother, Stella M. Daniels of Murfreesboro,TN; one brother, Henry (Dubie) Knox of Murfreesboro,TN; one devoted sister, Ruth O. Daniels of Murfreesboro, TN; two sisters, Judith Daniels of Murfreesboro, TN, and Shelia Johnson of Nashville, TN, and a host of nieces and nephews; three aunts: Addie L. Lyons & Lois Knox of Murfreesboro, TN, and Rebecca Overall of Lebanon, TN.; several cousins, relatives, and friends; as well as two devoted friends: Harold (Louise) Lusk of Rock Island, TN and Ann Dunn of Murfreesboro, TN. She is preceded in death by her father, Grant E Daniels and her brother, Melvin E. Daniels, Sr.
