Vanessa Ann Nelson was born October 7, 1958, in Bedford County, to Mary Katherine Wade and the late Fred Wade. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Vanessa was the oldest of seven children and attended and graduated from Oakland High School. She also attended Aviation School in Florida. Vanessa was employed at Rich Products and was a faithful servant at Inner-City Ministry.

Vanessa was baptized at Green Meadow Church of Christ. she was a member at Hwy 231 Church of Christ and a member of Inner-City Ministry. Vanessa was very faithful and active in her Christian Walk. She loved serving in the community, helping the needy, jail ministry and Christian Life Coach for men and women.

Vanessa was a very good baker and enjoyed making sweets for everyone, this included her Banana Pudding and Strawberry cakes. It was nothing for her to bake for other people on holidays and birthdays. Vanessa was a very kindhearted person and didn’t mind making sure anyone in need was helped. Vanessa had a passion for spreading God’s word through her ministry work. She just loved serving in her community. She worked with the youth, teaching and guiding them through their day to day walk with God. She visited with inmates conducting bible studies. Vanessa had a smile that could light up a room. The important thing we can say about Vanessa is that she loved her children, grandchildren and family. She loved being a part of Inner-City Ministry, picking the children up and taking them to class. But the most important thing we can say about Vanessa is that she loved the Lord.

Vanessa was preceded in death by her husband, George Nelson and father, Fred Wade.

Vanessa is survived by one daughter, Beatrice Nelson; one son, Anthony (Katherine) Nelson; devoted grandsons, Demar Cheers and Deon Thompson; four sisters, Melleny Owens, Gloria Wade Nelson, Delphine (Vincent) Hampton and Freda Wade; two brothers, Frederick (Tonyia) Wade and Tyrone Wade; loving mother, Mary Katherine Wade; seven grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jimmie Gertrude Shannon; brothers-in-law, Tommy (Betty) Nelson, William (Marie) Nelson, Albert (Judy) Nelson, Clarence (Debra) Nelson and Pleas Nelson; a devoted play daughter, Lisa Scruggs; bonus children, Carlos, Catherine and Roger Green; and a host of nephews and nieces, a special niece, Jaden (China Belle) Wade, cousins and friends.
